Go: missing go.sum entry for module providing package
go: example.com/module@v1.2.3: missing go.sum entry; to add it:
go mod download example.com/module
Immediate Remediation
bash
go mod tidy
Root Cause Analysis
The module dependency is listed in go.mod but its checksum is not recorded in go.sum, so Go refuses to use the module in an untrusted way. This commonly happens when go.mod is edited manually or after adding a new dependency without updating go.sum.
Verification & Guardrails
- `go mod tidy` will also remove any unused dependencies from go.mod and go.sum.
- If you are using a private module, verify your GOPRIVATE or GONOSUMDB settings to avoid sum mismatches.
- If `go mod tidy` fails due to network, try `GOPROXY=direct go mod tidy`.
